Evangeline Coombs Coates, my maternal grandmother, was a prolific maker of textiles for her home and her 3 children's homes. She hooked rugs, crocheted table linens and created quilts, all hand-pieced and hand-quilted.

I salvaged the edges of one of her worn quilts to make a jacket for my mother; she wears it every morning to keep off the chill.
